This apple becomes a very dark, sometimes almost black, red color. It is primarily a storage apple, lasting easily through winter even under warmer conditions. Because of this, initially the apples will be hard and not very flavorful, but as time goes on the flavor greatly improves. These apples are then best enjoyed in Spring when other varieties are out.

Apples require pollinators, so another variety of apple should be nearby for production. Arkansas Black apples are triploid, making them poor pollinators for other apples. They do best with at least two other apple varieties for pollination, such as Cortland, Empire, Freedom, or Sweet Sixteen.

This tree is Zone 5, so it will do well in areas such as Coeur d'Alene, Hayden and Post Falls.

Trees need full sun and should be planted minimum 10ft apart from other fruit trees.
