A popular apple, especially in the Northeast, for fresh eating, cooking, and cider. They are non-browning and taste sweet tart and flavorful. They stay on the tree better than its parent, McIntosh, and are considered productive and hardy.
Apples require pollinators, so another variety of apple
should be nearby for production. Some recommended pollinators include Empire, Freedom, Granny Smith, and Gala. As McIntosh is the parent, it is a poor pollinator for this apple.
This tree is Zone 4, so it will do well in most of the region
including the colder areas such as Rathdrum and Athol.
Trees need full sun and should be planted minimum 10ft apart
from other fruit trees.
