Apple Wealthy 4 Year

Introduced in 1868, the story goes that Peter Gideon purchased seeds with his few remaining dollars, one of which became the Wealthy. His goal was to produce a cold hardy apple that could survive on the Minnesota prairie. A cross between the 'Duchess of Oldenburg' and a 'Jonathan', this apple is sweet and juicy and crisp. It is best in sauces, ciders, and butters, but can also be used for fresh eating and pies. It is also a good storage apple.

Apples require pollinators, so another variety of apple should be nearby for production. Some recommended pollinators include Cox Orange Pippin, Empire, Wolf River, Transparent, Ambrosia, Braeburn, Cortland, Liberty, SnowSweet, Winesap, or Zestar!.

This tree is Zone 3, so it will do well in most of the region including the colder areas such as Rathdrum and Athol.

Trees need full sun and should be planted minimum 10ft apart from other fruit trees.
